Work Release
The Detention Center's Work Release Program operates in accordance with VA Code 53.1-131.The program is designed for misdemeanant and non-violent offenders with sentences of less than 12 months with no recent history of violence, sex, or escape offenses. All newly incarcerated inmates are evaluated for assignment to work release upon final disposition of their charges. Inmates with pending charges are not eligible.
Inmates assigned to work release are released from confinement for the period of their work day. All compensation received from their employment is payable to the Detention Center. The Detention Center disburses inmate compensation to satisfy child support requirements, court costs, fines, and restitution and applies a daily fee to offset the cost of inmate incarceration. Any amount remaining is maintained in an inmate personal account.
Employers
The Detention Center’s Work Release participants enjoy a great reputation for their dependability and hard work. These are non-violent offenders that are assigned to the program by the courts or the Detention Center. For additional information contact the Work Release Program Coordinator at 540-665-6380.
