First 48 Hours
After arrest the person will be taken in front of the Magistrate to determine the bail amount and whether he or she will be committed to jail or released on his or her own signature.
The intake section receives all inmates, inventories personal property, inmate money and conducts a search of each inmate to prevent the introduction of contraband into the facility. This section also provides initial medical and suicide screening, takes photographs and fingerprints for the purpose of identification and assigns inmates to their initial housing location.
Once booked into the Adult Detention Center persons incarcerated are given the opportunity to make two phone calls. In some cases these calls could be delayed for a reasonable time due to the person being intoxicated and or violent.
The next regular scheduled Court day the inmate will be taken in front of the Judge for an arraignment. The arraignment is for the purpose of reviewing the bond to determine whether the person should be appointed an attorney and setting the next Court date.
In the event a bond is still required for the inmate after arraignment the option of posting a bond in cash to the magistrate’s office or the Court is available. A bail bonding company may be contacted and will explain the process of using those services. Most bail bonding companies are listed in the local phone book. No staff member of the Adult Detention Center can recommend a bail bonding company. If the inmate is not released by the Court or bonded he or she will be seen by the Classification section within 72 hours. This face to face interview in a private setting will be conducted to ensure that medical mental health and program needs will be met. An orientation is conducted that includes issuance of the inmate handbook, visitor information, program availability, medical access and custody level is determined.
